Today in class... Test Day.
Today we had our test on American History. It wasn't too bad except Mr. Schick had told us that we were only going to have two short answer questions but it ended up being two essays. To him the questions I guess were short answer though. Anyways I think I did pretty well on the multiple choice part but I honestly don't know how I feel about the essay part. It took me forever to finish those essays and I was the last person to turn in their test and the last person to leave the room. I am praying I did well.

Today in class... Jenna Marbles
Today in class Mr. Schick gave us a free period and I didn't have any homework to do so my first go to was Netflix. Once I finished watching Lilo and Stitch (I'm obsessed with that movie) I went to my next go to which was YouTube. I started to watch a YouTuber called Jenna Marbles because she is actually one of the funniest people I've ever heard. Kate wanted to watch with me so I gave her my other headphone and we sat there trying not to laugh to loud.

Today in class... Declaration of Independence Vid.
Today we watched a video on the D.O.I. There were basically a bunch of celebrities of all different ethnicities, both male and female. I think the video was only like nine minutes long but Mr. Schick would stop during certain times to explain what the D.O.I. was saying in modern terms. A lot of people fell asleep in class and I'm not gonna lie, I was one of those people. I tried really really hard to stay awake and I was so mad at myself after I woke up and realized that I missed a good chunck of the class. In my defense I had been up until like 12-1 last night studying and doing homework. Sorry Mr. Schick, at least I can say I tried to stay awake.

Today in class... Paul Revere.
Today in class we watched a video on Paul Revere and the ride he took through Boston to Lexington. It was a pretty good poem. Mr. Schick told us that he had to memorize that when he was younger and I am so confused on how you can memorize a poem that long. The video took the guy five minutes and he probably had the paper in front of him! So I give you props Mr. Schick. Good job!

Today in class... the Declaration of Independence.
Part 1:
The first part of the Declaration of Independence was called the Preamble. This part basically stated that everyone is created equal and that all men have "unalienable rights" that no one can take away such as "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". By nature and by God you have these rights that you were born with. It also explained basically that because of the abuses that they have endured, they also have the right to overthrow the government.
Part 2:
This part basically explains all over the abuses that the colonists have had to deal with that the King had put upon them. It says that they have suffered 27 abuses form the King. For example, some of the abuses had to do with not having representation in the government and therefore the government had become a tyrannical authority. Another example of an abuse would be the unnecessary taxes and other things that the colonists were forced to provide to the British such as the Quartering Acts.
Part 3:
This smaller part of the D.O.I. is the colonists explaining to the King that they have used peaceful ways to voice their opinions such as protests and boycotts, but these had only led to more abuse, and for these reasons they basically had no choice but to become their own nation.
Part 4:
This part basically states that the Second Continental Congress now represents the colonists and the new nation called the United States of America. The new country can do anything any other country can do such as trade, form alliances, and even declare war against another country. At the very bottom it has all of the signature of all the reps. from all of the 13 colonies.

Today in class... Boston Tea Party.
Today in class we learned about the Boston Tea Party. The Tea Party happened in December of 1773. It was led by Samuel Adams and a few others. Basically they dressed as Native Americans and they jumped on all the cargo ships and dumped all the tea into the harbor. In return, the British punished their actions by banning public meetings, closing the Boston Harbor, and sending more British soldiers to Boston. Those punishments were called the "Intolerable Acts" by the colonists

Today in class... American History Continued
Today in class we continued the notes we were taking last class on American Histoy. Today we focused on the Boston Massacre which sounds a lot harsher than it was. So basically what happened was this drunk colonist started to aggravate a lone soldier that was minding his own business. Then more soldiers came and along with more soldiers came more colonists. Like A LOT more colonists. These soldiers were way out numbered them only having seven and the colonists having over a hundred. The colonists started to throw ice and were screaming at the soldiers and in all the chaos a shot went off. After the one shot then another, and another. There was a lot of controversy in our class on which side to back up but I personally side with the soldiers because they were basically in a life or death situation and were defending themselves as any of us would in that situation.

Today in class... First Day of Western Civ!
Today in class was the first day of Western Civ! Our class is literally the same people and we have the same crazy teacher. So Mr. Schick said that we are going to do the class backwards and start off with American History instead of like the Greeks and stuff so that's what we did. We took our first notes basically on how the British immigrants took over a bunch of Native American territory. They also fought France in a war called the French and Indian War for more land. To me that war was pointless because the British gained a lot of land but then didn't even want their colonists to settle there. I mean the colonists didn't listen and they settled there anyway so I guess it wasn't a complete waste.

Today at the Pow Wow! 1/14/17
Today at school there was a Pow Wow! I love the annual Pow Wow we have at school. The Native American culture has always been so interesting to me. I first got to attend the Pow Wow last year and had so much fun. Watching all the dancing and listening to the singing and stories of their past is just so eye opening. Anyways I know I didn't have to blog but I just wanted to share the pictures that I just sent to Mr. Schick via email for my extra credit. I also did a little shopping.
Okay so I can't figure out how to do this from my phone because I am in my car and literally just left the Pow Wow and am now on my way to Baltimore to watch a soccer game but I might try to do it later on my computer.

Today in Class... Dress Up Day...? 1/13/17
Today in class Mr. Schick was dressed up in a suit even though it was a dress down day. This really confused everyone so someone asked him why he was so dressed up. He told us that they had gotten and email saying that only students could dress down this time but teachers couldn't. One teacher even asked why and they basically just said don't ever question what we tell you to do. This has everyone really confused because teachers have always been able to dress down so why was this time any different. And also, why were the administrators getting so defensive when someone just simply wanted to know why this change was taking place. But basically Mr. Schick dressing up was his way of I guess being sarcastic and "talking back" in the most polite way possible.

Today in Class... Gumpy Continued. 1/12:17
Today in class Mr. Schick finished his Gumpy story and and told us many more horrifying childhood memories from when he was a school boy. So basically Mr. Schick was trying to throw his toy Gumpy over his teacher to his friend in the front of the room, but his teacher stood up and Gumpy hit her in the ribs. His teacher took Gumpy and started to rip him apart and the wires in Gumpy cut her hand open. Good job Mr. Schick (lol). Mr. Schick has also flooded his schools bathroom and climbed out the window to not get caught. I can never look at Mr. Schick the same way ever again after hearing the stories he has told us.

Today in Class... The Final Decision. 1/11/17
Today in class we made our final decision about the test. During the period there was a lot of debate about what we should do. Some say we take the test as it is. Others say make it open note. Most said make it open note and a quiz instead of a test. I brought up my opinion to have a test but make it worth 50 points so it would be like a quiz instead and have it without open notes. For some reason Mr. Schick thought I said a 2 point quiz and pretty much laughed at the idea so that made me really confused. Anyways he basically said that no ones ideas would work so we were either having a test or not and then we voted. I voted for having the test but majority ruled and by a landslide the class voted to not take the test.

Today in Class... Test This Week...? 1/10/17
Today in class we were given a choice. We had class first period and I was actually on time for class for like the first time ever. Anyways I had to sit in the ground (which isn't really uncommon) and charge my laptop because I had left my charger at school yesterday and my laptop died on me. The closest outlet available was one on the opposite side on the room on the ground. So basically at the end of class Mr. Schick gave us the option to have a test this week or to not have a test this week since it is the last week of the quarter/semester. I personally want the test but I don't want it to be worth as much as a normal test is. I want it to be more like a 50 point test quiz thing so that if you do well on it, it will boost your grade and if you don't, it won't hurt you as much. We will see how everything goes tomorrow.

Today in Class... Kiva. 1/6/17
Today in class was my first time back in this class in weeks. We basically just talked about what we went over when I wasn't here which wasn't much actually. We just sat around and looked at the Kiva website. We were all looking at the different people that were to loan money and what they were asking for. Towards the end of class Mr. Schick told us that he was going to donate $25 to someone and wanted our help to decide who he should donate to. Eventually we ran out of time and we don't know who he pick but it will be interesting to find out.

Today on an Airplane... Heading Home. 1/4/17
Today I came back home after a five day trip to Florida. Flying there was my first time ever on an airplane and I was freaking out just a little, espescially when there was turbulance. My sister let me get the window seat so that I could look outside and calm down maybe just a little. So on the way back I felt better about flying and so Samiah made me sit in the middle seat which was a little annoying because she wasnt even awake. As soon as she sat down she went to sleep and didnt even look out the window once which was all I wanted to do. Anyways I am now back in cold cold Maryland imagining that I am still in Florida. I will be back in school tomorrow but sadly I do not have Human Geo until Friday. See you soon!

Today in Florida... Weird Soccer Tans. 1/3/17
So I'm at yet another soccer tournament but this time it is in Orlando, Florida. I have been playing for four days straight and the only time my skin gets to see the sun is with my uniform on, therefore I have some pretty weird tan lines. My arms are tans all the way up until where my sleeves were, from my neck up is tan, and from the middle of my thigh to the bottom of my knee is tan. So basically the entire middle part of my body and my shins are pale. It looks REALLY weird so I'm expecting to get a lot of questions at school. I fly back tomorrow but I don't think I will be making it to school. Well I hope you all had a nice break and I will be back in the cold in two days.
